In March of 2013, we lost a friend and Oregon hard cider pioneer, Loretta Sue Skurdahl. 100% of the apples in this cider are from her orchard of English and French bittersweets, planted in the mid 1990s. We wish she was here to share a bottle with us.
Farewell, Lorrie.
I have been fortunate enough to harvest apples from the Skurdhal orchard for many years and thought it only fitting to make a cider using 15 varieties of only her apples, in a style that she liked: true English. Sharp, tannic, deep in complexity and without carbonation. 65 cases produced in Spring 2013.
All proceeds are donated to Oregon’s Friends of Family Farmers.
Pairs well with:
Montgomery’s Cheddar, an Artisan Somerset Cheddar (a Slow Foods Ark of Taste designation) from Neal’s Yard Dairy in Manor Farm, North Cadbury, Somerset, England.
